NewTek has released a demonstration version of their LightWave 3D software, consisting of a CD with complete online documentation, tutorials, and all of the sample models, images and textures that are available in the retail version of LightWave 3D v7.5. The catch is that the demo version of LightWave -- dubbed LightWave 3D Discovery Edition -- limits each object to no more than 400 points and places a digital watermark on each rendered frame. Demo discs like this are opportunities to play with professional 3D software without paying thousands of dollars for the full version. LightWave 3D Discovery Edition is available from NewTek directly and from NewTek resellers. A similar demo is available for Alias|Wavefront's Maya.
