It's possible that Quartz Extreme -- Apple's new acceleration-technology -- isn't running on your Mac with OS X 10.2, but how can you tell for sure? I must tell you that I haven't tried this application yet. My copy of Jaguar has not yet arrived in the mail. But if you have just spent two hours installing Jaguar and you're getting a little upset that you aren't seeing any speed improvements with the new OS, you may want to download and run this: Quartz Extreme Check Some people mistakenly believe that PCI Radeon cards will offer them some Quartz Extreme acceleration. Such video cards do not work with Quartz Extreme. Only AGP 2x or better graphics cards with 16 megs or more of VRAM will work with Quartz Extreme. There have been some early reports suggesting that Quartz Extreme is disabled in AGP 2x Macs with a second video card in a PCI slot. If you have such a system and Quartz Extreme does not appear to be running, then try unplugging the monitor cable from your PCI video card and then rebooting.
