Apple Blows Off Macworld Expo Print E-mail
Friday, 18 October 2002 12:35

In a move that surprised just about everyone, Apple has announced that they will not participate at Macworld Expo in Boston, 2004. The expo was recently moved back to Boston – where it was held until 1998 – because the present New York venue was considered too expensive.

Fans of the East Coast Macworld Expo show have been very positive about the move to Boston. Apple's announcement that they would not attend has been a shock and disappointment.

IDG World Expo has been very public about their intention to move the show to Boston. Their negotiations with officials in Boston have been going on for several months. Apple had numerous opportunities to voice their disapproval of the move, but they did not do so until after IDG had locked in the deal. Why they waited this long to announce that they disagreed with the move is anyone's guess.

It is yet another in a series of baffling moves that alienate long-time Mac fans.

I think that Apple should have a deal with Steve Jobs that he comes back as the CEO once every decade, but can spend no more than 4 consecutive years running the company.

After all the stuff they've done to try to push me away from the platform, I really don't care about Apple's presence at Macworld. I'm going to Boston in 2004.

I think Apple should stop going to Macworld conventions and should go to PC World instead. Then people could see Apple next to PCs and we would all see how Apple has fallen behind in technology and how bad OS X is.

I just "switched" to a PC. It's great for word processing and email. Games aren't as good as I hoped because the graphics aren't as good as on Macs. Photoshop sucks ion a PC but it doesn't have to be great because pictures don't look good on a PC monitor anyway. There's so much shareware to make it more Mac-like that I feel right at home. It's sooooo muchbetter than OS X. MS is giving me 6 months of free online storage like an iDisk. Win2k is kind of slow, but so is OSX. I have loads of cheap RAM and hard disk space and a DVD player and CD Burner and my Pentium 4 uns quieter than any Mac. I miss the old Finder, but I couldn't have that in an OS X machine anyway.

Thank you Steve for supporting M$ and our efforts to control the world. You may be interested in our upcoming efforts to enslave all electronic media through our "Trusted Computing" platform. It's all the rage amongst politicians and securocrats (as well as our friends in the record and movie business). You'll be happy to know that your purchase of a PC will contribute to our funds to take over the world. -- Your ever loving Furher, B. Gates (of Hell)

Apple has special press events to launch their products. They don't need Macworld anymore, so why should they spend $4-5 million on a show?
