Apple and Microsoft seem to be going their separate ways. Safari is Apple's device to smash Internet Explorer's dominance on the Mac platform. Now Microsft has struck a return blow. On February 19th, Connectix Corp. announced that their emulation technologies had been acquired by Microsoft. Note that this is an acquisition -- not a license. The press release indicates that sales and support of the present line of Connectix software will continue for the next 6 months. Virtual PC for Windows and a new Virtual Server for Windows will continue to be developed. Notably absent from the press release is an assurance that development will continue on the Mac emulators. What is Microsoft's purpose in this acquisition and what coincidences lie in the timing of this announcement? Let the speculation begin!
