JetBlue Airways allowed a private security company to have access to a confidential travelers database, which the security company used for research, shared with the military and used in public presentations. Travel information was correlated to social security numbers, DMV records, household income, credit card numbers, number of children, spouses, travel companions, employment information, hotel and car rental information and more. Much of this information was available on the web site of the security company for some time and may have been used for identity theft purposes. A class-action lawsuit is being filed against JetBlue. If you would like to see what information was gathered about you, you need to make a Freedom of Information Act request. A quick and easy e-mail form is available at the ACLU web site here: http://www.acluaction.org/aclu/mail/compose/?mailid=3543676 An article describing the circumstances of this invasion of privacy is available here: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/09/20/attack/main574336.shtml More information is available on the Wired web site.
