Review: The Burger King Angus Burger Print E-mail
Tuesday, 24 August 2004 00:13

When I lived in California, I was introduced to a regional fast food restaurant called Carl's Jr. (home of the Green Burrito) that served some of the most satisfying sandwiches that I have ever tasted. Their regular burgers were alright -- a bit like larger, juicier versions of Wendy's burgers with some Burger King flame broiling tossed in -- but it was their Charbroiled Sirloin Steak Sandwich that had me coming back.

The sweet memory of those Carl's Jr. sandwiches haunted me this week as I munched on the depressingly generic Burger King Angus Steak Burger. "Angus Steak Burger" brings to mind a high-quality savory steak, but the meat that they used was finely ground and spiced enough to obscure any hint of quality. The texture of the patty was akin to over-cooked pasta while the too-sweet steak sauce lay on the burger like paint and stuck to the roof of my mouth. For all of the hype, it wasn't as satisfying as a BK Whopper or a Wendy's Classic.

Burger King's chef's often come up with seasonal treats such as the tangy Italian Chicken Sandwiches from a few years back. The Angus Steak Burger is one of their rare failures. I really miss Carl's Jr. right now!

OLD COMMENTS

I finally tried the Angus burger tonight. I have to admit that it was better than the Whopper. Which does make it better than McD's. But although it was better, Andrew's review is pretty accurate. It was still lame. Though they may be fried, Wendy's has the best burger of any national chain (national as in you can find them coast to coast.) I too miss the BK's Italian Chicken sandwich. That was a great sandwich.

I think there's a huge diffference between the Angus and the Whopper. Whoppers have a really special flavor n texture. Angus burgers are just regular burgers with some sauce and same old veggies. I'm sorry I missed the chicken.
