I was disappointed by John Kerry's performance in tonight's debate. While he did very well overall, he missed a vital opportunity to gain points with voters who are concerned about his indecisiveness.

I wanted John Kerry to explain the reasoning behind his voting record on the $87 billion to fund the war in Iraq.

According to a commentator on National Public Radio, Kerry initially voted for the spending bill with the understanding that the money would come from revoking some of Bush's tax cuts. When the bill was revised to fund the war by deficit-spending then Kerry voted against it.

A recent CNN article explains it similarly.

If this accurately reflects the reasoning behind Kerry's vote, then people need to hear about it. It shows that he is a man of reason and would go a long way toward clearing the air about his alleged flip-flopping.

The problem is that we haven't heard Kerry properly explain his vote in a public forum.
