This site was hit by a comments-spammer this afternoon. The spam has been purged, but comments to the stories won't be available until I have made some minor changes to prevent future abuses.

[Update: 5pm EST] I have put a new system in place that should block this kind of comments-spam in the future.

What was it? I didn't see it!!

The comments started filling up with ads for online gambling.

I don't mind leaving an email address so long as I don't have to leavfe my real one. Is that the fix?

The spambot filled in the name and e-mail fields. The fix has to be deeper than that.

So does that mean that we don't need the name and email stuff?

I liked it when we could leave it blank.
