Are you using an alternative browser because you can't figure out how to get rid of the annoying download warnings in Safari 2.0?

In order to prevent malicious applications from automatically executing when they are downloaded and opened, Safari gives you the chance to delete a download before it can do any harm.
Of course, the odds of your unintentionally downloading such a file on a Mac are about on a par with the odds of your being struck by a meteor - twice. Unfortunately, it is not at all clear how to disable the warning and it can be intolerably annoying when you download several files and find yourself spending more time dismissing alert-boxes then getting actual work done.
The alert is triggered by a preference setting. If you un-check "Open 'safe' files after downloading" in Safari's General preferences, the warning will go away.

The real problem is that when you install Tiger over an earlier version of OS X, Safari 2.0 will use your preferences from earlier versions of Safari -- EXCEPT for that one preference, so it's easy to assume that the behavior is not associated with a preference-setting.
Now you know better.
