I'm still making good progress on the guitar.

I started working on Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" last week and I think I've got it down pretty well.

But then I'm tearing through it in front of my folks and I'm waiting for some sign of approval when my mom interrupts me during the guitar-solo part towards the end and asks me when I'm going to start playing a song.

Huh?!

She thought I was just jamming with semi-random chords as a warm up.

Ouch!

So I tell her that I'm playing "Stairway" and she asks me to hum a few bars because she doesn't recognize the name. I hum a bit then I show her the lyrics and she still doesn't know it. I sit her in front of the computer and with a quick Googling I find a midi version of it that I play for her and she still doesn't know it. I go to Amazon and play her their preview from Led Zeppelin IV and she still doesn't know it.

"How about this?" I ask her and I launch into Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here."

"I know that!" she says. "That's the Pink Floyd. Don't you know any good songs? Play 'You Are My Sunshine.'"

Urgh!
