ALERT! - MacSlash Domain Stolen Print E-mail
Thursday, 30 May 2002 03:00

As of Thursday, May 30th, the domain for MacSlash is pointing to a placeholder page from a company called "Dotster, Inc."

A few quick WhoIs searches confirm that this is not just a local name-server error. The domain has been transferred to Dotster. While some users have reported that they can still access MacSlash at http://www.macslash.com, it is likely that this is due to slow propogation of the new host information.

SlashDot has few details about the switch. It is unknown at this time what circumstances led to this domain-swap and whether it was done with malicious intent.

The MacSlash team has registered macslash.net and hope to have the site operational shortly. MacSlash was unavailable at http://www.macslash.net as of the time this story was written.

MacSlash has been a valuable news source and community forum for Macintosh users. There is a link to MacSlash in the "Links" pane on this very website. The link will be updated as soon as we have identified a working URL.

MacSlash.com resolves properly now.

MacSlash .com, .org and .net all point to the MacSlash.org servers.

I have e-mailed their admins for an update and will post a story when I have confirmation of their present status.
