It's Off to Macworld We Go Print E-mail
Tuesday, 16 July 2002 10:11

Rumors, rumors and more rumors lead this worldly weathered writer to believe that he's in for disappointment at this years' Macworld Expo at New York's Javits Center.

I've been waiting for a significant update to Apple's desktop-line for 2 years, and according to the top rumor sites, I'm out of luck. While the G4 desktops will see some minor speed enhancements and possibly FireWire 2, they aren't going to get the faster system bus to bring it all together. Signs suggest that Apple's Macworld announcements will include a new 20-Gig iPod, 17-inch LCD iMacs, Bluetooth-enabled laptops and perhaps a minor upgrade to the iBook to allow it to run OS X 10.2 at a decent clip... oh yes, and Apple will show off the new QuickTime 6, will preview OS X 10.2, iTunes 3 and .Mac -- the latter being an upgraded pay-for-play iTools suite.

The good news is that if the rumors are true, these relatively minor updates to the Powerbook-line should make it easy to find present-generation Powerbooks -- extremely powerful machines in their own right -- at a sweet discount.

I've got $5 bucks that says the rumor-sites will have missed a big announcement. We'll see about that tomorrow.
