Adaptec Doesn't Like Macs |

Everyone who uses Adaptec-brand PCI cards in a demanding professional environment knows that Adaptec's Mac drivers simply suck. (People who know SCSI will gladly pay the premium price for Atto cards.) Now, MacNN reports that Adaptec has reduced their Mac team to a single part-time programmer. Personally, my impression is that Adaptec has never really cared about Mac users and the sorry state of Mac support at that company has been the status quo for quite some time. Now, if Adaptec doesn't care about the Mac market, then might this not also reflect the state of affairs at Adaptec's subsidiary, Roxio? This would seem to explain why Roxio's Toast lacks features common to PC CD burning software and is so bug-filled and crash-prone. It's seldom good for a platform to lose a developer, but since Adaptec never really got behind their Mac products to begin with, the loss is minimal.
